Maui, Hawaii – My Favorite Restaurants

“Where do you like to eat?” It’s a common question I’m asked by friends as they prepare for their Hawaii Trips. In our ongoing effort to provide you with the restaurants and dishes recommended by those who know the islands the best, the ‘locals,’ here’s Kelii’s top five Maui restaurants / dishes. Kelii’s a Mainland Kama’aina alumn – he grew up on Maui and after a decade living away, he is back home. Mahalo for the recommendations!

5. Hali’imaile General Store: Kelii’s recommended dish is the Sashimi Napoleon. I’ve been there with my wife (see blogpost) and loved the restaurant!

4. Zippys: Recommend Dish: Korean Chicken. Not far from Wal-Mart and downtown Kahului, Zippy’s is a nice and semi-quick option with a diversified menu.

3. Restaurant Matsu: Recommended Dish: Pork Saimin. In the heart of the ‘industrial’ area of Kahului, this is a local favorite serving up nice “local Japanese’ dishes.

2. Cafe O’lei: Recommended Dish: Blackened Ahi Sandwich. The Kihei location is very convenient for anyone in that area.

1. Sam Sato’s: Recommended Dish: Dry Mein, Cheeseburger, and fries. Family owned and run great local restaurant. Bring cash – Sam Sato’s doesn’t take cards. Come early for lunch – this place is a local favorite!

    • Homesick? Are you from Hawaii? I love fruit shakes but I’m trying to lean more to the ‘veggie’ shakes to lose some weight before summer hits . . . . .your blog is KILLING ME! 🙂

      Thx for the comment
